Dear members,

It is my pleasure to write to you for the first time as President of the IPA.

Before looking ahead, I would like to thank my predecessor, Yin Lee, for her enthusiasm, energy and commitment over the past year. During her tenure she brought her own fresh approach to the role and championed several initiatives close to her heart, particularly in support of smaller firms and those entering the profession. Among her lasting contributions is the launch of the IPA Exam Scholarships programme, which I am delighted to see become a reality. Please don’t miss the opportunity.

With education and professional development very much in mind, I would also like to wish all of our student members who sat their CPI or CPPI examinations earlier this month the very best of luck when results are released on 9 September 2026. Success in the CPI or CPPI requires significant commitment and perseverance, often alongside the demands of a busy role. Whatever the outcome, you should be proud of the hard work and effort you have invested in your studies, and I wish you every success as you continue your professional journey.

Since taking office last month I have already had the pleasure of meeting many members at our recent Manchester Roadshow. It was encouraging to see a record attendance and have the opportunity to meet over 130 professionals from across the North West and further afield, and hear first-hand about the opportunities and challenges facing practitioners across the profession.

Looking ahead, as part of my own Presidential objectives I am passionate about doing what I can to bear influence on reducing the personal liability falling on IPs and reducing the regulatory burden. I anticipate a busy and important year for insolvency and restructuring professionals. With legislative and regulatory change on the horizon across both corporate and personal insolvency, it is more important than ever that the profession remains engaged and informed. The IPA continues to work closely with government, regulators and other stakeholders to help shape developments and ensure that the practical realities of insolvency practice are properly understood and reflected in future reforms.

I am looking forward to meeting many more members over the coming months, continuing with our Birmingham Roadshow in July and at other IPA events across the UK. Please do come and say hello if you are attending.
