Dear members,

Following last month’s AGM, I am delighted to welcome Louise Brittain as IPA President for 2026-27. Louise brings deep professional experience and insight, and I look forward to working closely with her.

Louise and I were delighted to meet many of you at the IPA’s sold-out Manchester Roadshow last week. Our regional events have become ever more popular. We have continued to engage with government on insolvency issues, most recently meeting Duncan Beach, the new Insolvency Service Chief Executive, and writing to him at his request with ‘quick wins’ that he can implement to improve the insolvency regime and its regulation. Our suggestions included clearer guidance on director misconduct reporting, a review of annual creditor reporting requirements, and changes to facilitate the appointment of IPs where creditors have indicated a preferred nominee. We look forward to his reply.

We have also submitted the IPA’s response to the Government’s consultation on corporate civil enforcement regime reform. While supporting the overall objective of strengthening corporate governance and accountability, our response highlights important issues within the proposed structural reforms, information-gathering powers and procedural changes. Finally, the IPA has also published our annual report on personal insolvency – the IPA’s Volume Provider Regulation (VPR) Scheme 2025 Benchmark Report, which covers two-thirds of the IVA and PTD market. Our report demonstrates the impact of the IPA’s Scheme in 2025, with member firms helping over 53,000 people to become debt-free and distributing £212 million to creditors.
