IPA Insolvency Practitioner newsletter, December 2024

Dear members,

I hope you’ve had a good 2024. The highlight for me was being welcomed into the insolvency world. I’m pleased to have met many of you already, including the 200 delegates at the IPA’s Personal Insolvency Conference in Manchester last month, where we heard from the Insolvency Service CEO and speakers from government, debt advice charities and the legal profession. It was the place to be to get up to date in a fast-moving sector. I’ve also been honoured to meet the IPA’s Past Presidents at their annual luncheon to hear of their significant contributions to the profession dating back to 1995. I’m grateful to you all.

Some news to be aware of. First, on 2 December, the revised Insolvency Guidance Paper (IGP) on control of cases came into effect, following approval by the IPA, the Joint Insolvency Committee (JIC) and other RPBs.

Second, there have been changes to the countries labelled ‘at risk’ for AML purposes by the Financial Action Tast Force (FATF) and the bonding reforms in force as of 1 December 2024. Do take a look.

And third, the IPA’s new Articles of Association come into effect on 1 January 2025 to ensure we remain an agile, well-governed regulator that can meet the needs of the wider sector.

I wish you well for the festive period and for a successful 2025.
