IPA Insolvency Practitioner newsletter, June 2025

Dear members,

It was a pleasure seeing many of you in Manchester this month for another sold-out IPA roadshow … and to welcome Yin Lee to host the event, with insight and humour, in her first as our new IPA President. I look forward to supporting her to help shape further improvements to insolvency practice.

This week, we welcomed the Insolvency Service 2024 Annual Review of Insolvency Regulation. It reported a 7% increase in the number of appointment-taking Insolvency Practitioners (IPs) choosing the IPA. We now oversee 46% of IPs, and 71% of the Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) market and 73% of Protected Trust Deeds (PTDs) in Scotland. A warm welcome to our new members. All our focus at the IPA is on supporting and improving the UK insolvency profession and we look forward to doing that with all our members over the coming years.

We have published a report too: our IPA 2024 Benchmark Report on our Volume Provider Regulation (VPR) Scheme. The Scheme is the profession-leading regulatory regime designed to ensure high standards and consistent advice and quality among IPs and their firms. The report details our work in 2024 and our future areas of focus to maintain standards.

In this month’s update, you will see proposed changes to SIP 14 where we invite your comments. There is no news yet on proposed legislation from the Insolvency Service, including to introduce firm regulation. We may need to wait until after the summer for news. We will keep you informed.

I hope to see more of you at our Leeds Roadshow on 9th July. And I hope you enjoy the good weather when it comes.

Best wishes,

Marcial Boo
