IPA Insolvency Practitioner newsletter, October 2024

Dear members,

I am pleased to write this introduction as the IPA’s new chief executive. I look forward to meeting you over the coming months as I build on the good work of my predecessor Paul Smith.

As you know, the government has had regulatory reform of insolvency on their agenda. I hope that my longstanding experience in regulation can help the IPA and the insolvency profession to be well prepared for any changes ahead. I have been the chief executive of three regulators: the MPs’ financial watchdog IPSA for six years after the expenses scandal; Britain’s equality watchdog EHRC for two years; and the regulator of public health during Covid. I am also non-executive chair of the Institute of Regulation, the professional body for UK regulators. I hope that this background, as well as my eight years as a director of both the National Audit Office and the Audit Commission, can help the IPA to remain a fair, consistent, professional regulator and ensure high standards in the sector to benefit those who need its services.

I very much look forward to meeting you so I can deepen my understanding of the insolvency profession and the challenges it faces, working with key stakeholders such as the Insolvency Service and others. I was pleased, in my first week, to attend the IPA’s event in Belfast, where I met some of you and learned much from the insights presented. I hope to meet more of you at the IPA’s next Roadshow in London on 12 November.

Please feel free to contact me and our IPA team at any time.

Meantime, with best wishes,

Marcial Boo
