Reminder: Changes when contacting the HMRC MVL team

HMRC published a bulletin on 27th November 2025 highlighting new guidance for IPs when contacting the Members Voluntary Liquidation (MVL) team.

HMRC is almost at the end of the transition period detailed in the bulletin, and the new guidance process referred to will become mandatory with effect from 2nd February 2026.

Since updating the Public Notice 700/56 (which has now been superseded by the Insolvency Practitioner’s Handbook as previously advised) and publishing the bulletin to advise of the new process, only around 25% of IP enquiries to the MVL team have used the interactive guidance (as detailed under section 1.4 of the Insolvency Practitioners Handbook).

HMRC advises that the benefits of using the new guidance will significantly improve the customer experience for IPs. As detailed in the bulletin, please be aware that from 2nd February 2026, emails to the MVL team that do not follow the new guidance process will not be actioned.
