Useful new AML resource: UKFIU SAR best practice guidance
IPA Insolvency Practitioner newsletter, September 2025
The National Crime Agency (NCA) UK Financial Intelligence Unit (UKFIU) has released a set of six short YouTube videos covering:
- What is a Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) and why do I need to submit one?
- Know your glossary codes
- Reason for suspicion
- Best practice for completing the criminal/terrorist property section
- Best practice for completing the prohibited act section
- What happens after you submit a Defence Against Money Laundering (DAML) or Defence Against Terrorist Financing (DATF) request?
Members are encouraged to use these videos as a tool for staff engagement and awareness. The longest video is 5 minutes – making them easy to share in team meetings or refresher training.
The videos reinforce the key points that the IPA covers in training and provide practical examples. They are useful for Money Laundering Reporting Officers (MLROs) and all staff to improve the quality of SARs and DAMLs submitted – a key part of our AML supervision focus. They’re also a helpful reminder of the differences, timelines and limitations of DAML and DATF requests for completing prohibited act sections on the SAR portal.
