Yin Lee, President

IPA Insolvency Practitioner newsletter, November 2025

Six months into my presidency, I find myself wondering how quickly time is passing. It’s been a whirlwind and a joy. I’ve had the privilege of presenting at over six roadshows, travelling mainly ‘up north’ from London, and each one has been a delight. Meeting members from across the country has been one of the true highlights of this role. There’s still so much to do before my presidency ends in May, and I’m energised by what lies ahead.

In hosting these events, I’ve been struck by just how much work goes on behind the scenes. I would like to take this moment to give credit to the incredible IPA events team: Judith, Charlotte, Stephanie, Laura, Phil, Antonia, Nikki and Maria from Member Services. Every event runs seamlessly, and all I have to do is turn up and host. Their dedication, professionalism and good humour make it all possible, and they deserve every bit of recognition.

Last week, I was pleased to host my first Insolvency Practitioner Discussion Group in Manchester, with thanks to the lovely folk at Trowers & Hamlins for their kind hospitality. The session provided a valuable forum for practitioners to exchange views and discuss current challenges and developments within the profession. I was especially encouraged by the turnout from members who took time out from their busy schedule to share perspectives which are essential to shaping a fairer, more inclusive future. Their contributions reflected the depth of experience and innovation that small firms bring to the table, and reinforced the importance of creating space for honest, collaborative dialogue. I’ve made a note not to schedule such discussions on exciting nights… bonfire night or IPA roundtable? I know which one I’d rather choose.

I’ll be hosting another discussion session online at the end of the year – more on that soon.

The following day, I had the pleasure of hosting the Personal Insolvency Conference in Manchester. It was a vibrant and engaging event, bringing together professionals from the insolvency profession, the advice sector, government and regulators to explore the evolving landscape of personal insolvency. We discussed emerging trends and considered how best to serve debtors and creditors in an increasingly complex environment. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed.

Looking ahead, we’re excited about the Rising Professionals Charity Festive Social gathering on 3rd December 2025. It promises to be an exciting evening of networking and festive cheer – a joyful reminder of the talent, curiosity and camaraderie that the next generation brings to our profession. Tickets are just £10 for members and £20 for non-members, including food and drink – an absolute bargain, in my view. I’ll be there with my camera to take portraits for a small donation, and all proceeds will go to my chosen charity, Dreams Come True – a worthwhile cause.

As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the issues affecting you and your work. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me directly at president@ipa.uk.com. Your views help ensure the IPA continues to represent and support all its members effectively.
