As the only dedicated insolvency regulator in the UK, everything that the IPA does is in the name of championing professional standards in insolvency. Education and training are therefore vital to our work.

We have this year published the ninth edition of the Insolvency Practitioners’ Handbook, our main and most sought-after publication. The handbook is an invaluable reference for Insolvency Practitioners and students, containing the insolvency Code of Ethics, Statements of Insolvency Practice (SIPs), insolvency guidance papers, professional guidance and IPA regulations.

Additionally, we engaged with our members on the format of our handbook, to ascertain whether an alternative format to print would be useful. We have since brought out an online-only version of the handbook in accordance with our members’ feedback.

The IPA has launched a new training initiative, IPA Learning, in partnership with Insolvency Support Services. This training covers current and emerging technical and regulatory issues, and is designed with a clear focus on the practical application of new practice.

We surveyed our members this year on the IPA’s yearly events calendar. Using their feedback, and also responding to the need for additional member training on the hot topic of Anti-Money Laundering (AML), we have launched a free-to-attend Essential Briefing initiative, with the first iteration, a two-part module, covering the vital AML knowledge needed to avoid compliance pitfalls. This training was followed up with supporting communications.

The IPA, in partnership with providers Insolvency Support Services and BPP, has this year curated bespoke, discounted training packages for our members, focused on professional development.

The IPA’s Young Professionals Network, another new initiative, continues to grow. The IPA created this network to better support our student members and help them get the most out of their IPA Student membership, their studies and their long term careers, through access to tailored events and training, with the opportunity to meet distinguished figures in the insolvency profession. We recently ran a very well-received interactive lunchtime session with our President Kevin Hellard, who talked about how his career developed and offered advice to attendees.
