IPA Insolvency Practitioner newsletter, August 2026

Dear members,

As we approach the autumn after a hot summer, key developments are underway across the insolvency profession.

The IPA has submitted a response to the Insolvency Service consultation on changes to SIP 2 (investigations by office holders in administrations and insolvent liquidations and the submission of conduct reports). We want the revised standards to be robust, proportionate and workable in practice. We will continue to keep you informed.

We also seek your views, by 2 September, on the second review of the Insolvency (England and Wales) Rules 2016 and the Insolvency (Scotland) (Company Voluntary Arrangements and Administration) Rules 2018. The Insolvency Service’s consultation asks how the Rules operate in practice and how the framework can be modernised, including in e-communication, decision-making, administrative requirements, technology and digital assets.

Please also contribute your ideas for the forthcoming Joint Insolvency Committee strategy day on 24 September. They particularly want case studies where professional and ethical standards work well, where there are practical challenges or unintended consequences, and where improvements could be made. The Strategy Day will bring together the JIC, the Insolvency Service, RPBs, and IPs to consider emerging issues and future priorities. Feel free to take advantage of opportunity to help shape the future standards-setting process.

The IPA continues to bring you high-quality CPD opportunities too. Our Northern Ireland Roadshow is in Belfast on 9 September, and our high-profile AML & Fraud Conference is in Birmingham on 24 September. Both will be great for learning and networking.

The results for the June CPI and CPPI exams will be published on 9 September. Good luck to all who took the exams. Registrations for the next CPI exam on 9 November 2026 are now open; you need to apply by 23 October. Finally, if you are preparing for the Joint Insolvency Examination, the registration deadline is 8 September.
