IPA Insolvency Practitioner newsletter, April 2024

Dear members,

Many will have heard the deeply sad news that Steve Parker, my colleague and fellow Partner at Opus, unexpectedly passed away recently. Steve was a truly great person and he was a pleasure to know and to work with. My thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.

I am unfortunately unable to attend the IPA Annual Conference next Thursday, but I know that the team are looking forward to welcoming everyone to our nearly sold-out flagship event. Thank you to my IPA colleagues who are hosting the event, Paul Smith (CEO) and Louise Brittain, Head of Contentious Insolvency at Azets, IPA Board member and our incoming Deputy Vice President. Congratulations to Louise on your selection for your new IPA role, which will be ratified at the AGM in May.

On a linked note, Board member elections are underway and there are four open vacancies. Members should have received notification and further instruction from Civica on this and we look forward to receiving any selections. Thank you to those who have already sent yours in. If you can’t find your notification, please contact the membership team (membership@ipa.uk.com) for assistance.

A reminder that applications for the Richard Turton Award 2024 are now open. The Award is funded by the IPA, R3, INSOL Europe and INSOL International, jointly created in recognition of Richard Turton’s unique role in the formation of each organisation.

As readers may know, the Award is open to applicants who are a national of a developing or emerging market country; work in or study in the field of insolvency and restructuring law and practice; and are under 35 years of age. More information is available here.

On the theme of studies, the IPA’s own examinations, the CPI and CPPI, are currently open for registrations – with a reminder for those planning on taking the examinations in the June sitting that the booking window closes on 16 May. We advise registering in good time to gain access to the practice tools that have been specially developed to assist in your exam preparations.

Best wishes,

Paul Davis
