IPA Insolvency Practitioner newsletter, June 2024

Dear members,

A very warm welcome to Adrian Hyde, Partner at Begbies Traynor, who joined the IPA Board in April 2021 and was confirmed as IPA President 2024/25 at our AGM on May 30th. Equally, we warmly welcome Louise Brittain, Head of Contentious Insolvency at Azets as new Deputy Vice-President. Yin Lee, Consultant at Parker Getty, remains as Vice-President. All bring a great deal of expertise to their roles at the IPA.

If you are involved in the personal insolvency space, I would signpost you towards our latest  Benchmark Report of our tailored Volume Provider Regulation (VPR) Scheme which was published earlier this month. The report includes statistical insights into IVAs and PTDs, addressing concerns regarding appropriate advertising, alongside debt advice call monitoring, focused reviews of volume provider operations, analysis of debt solution failures, how solutions are selected by those in debt, levels of distributions to creditors and much more information which we hope you will find useful.

This part of insolvency is continually subject to close public scrutiny. The VPR scheme represents a significant commitment of dedicated resource, wholly funded by scheme member contributions, to address the unique challenges of operating at scale in this sector, and helps us to drive change where needed.

We also recently published edition five of our Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Digest, collating recent AML news and guidance from the IPA. Do ensure you note the content and that it is brought into consideration in the course of your work. On a linked note, help ensure that you stay protected from AML and fraud threats with our dedicated conference in Birmingham this September – early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.

I look forward to seeing some of you again very soon at our Leeds Roadshow on 3rd July which, as with our recent Manchester roadshow, is sold out.

Best wishes,

Paul Smith
