IPA Insolvency Practitioner newsletter, January 2024

Dear members,

I hope that your year is off to a good start and I wish you the very best in 2024. A warm welcome from me to the new members who have joined us this year.

This is a significant year for the future regulation of insolvency, with the RPBs and the Insolvency Service working together to address potential reform post publication of the outcome to the 2021 consultation. Our first round table of 2024 with the Insolvency Service has taken place with an early focus on how the challenge of introducing firm regulation can be progressed ahead of legislation being implemented. It will be evident to members from the consultation response that there is an appetite on the part of Government and the Insolvency Service to see real progress in this and other areas as we move through the year. Members can expect further updates as matters progress.

With the regulatory landscape continuing to evolve, I am pleased to advise that we also start the year with five new members of our Volume Provider Regulation (VPR) Scheme which is overseen by  our dedicated VPR team. Now entering its 6th year, the VPR Scheme should prove a useful template as we move the discussion on firm regulation forward. With much on the agenda for discussion in 2024, we look forward to meeting attendees at this year’s Roadshows in major cities and each of the UK’s four nations (the Spring/Summer events in the series have been announced), as well as our other flagship events throughout the year such as April’s Annual Conference. Members will also be aware from recent communication that the rescheduled IPA Awards ceremony will now take place on 5th March. I hope you can join us on the evening to celebrate with the winners and enjoy a three course meal, with guest award presenters and some additional entertainment planned for the evening. The IPA will be making a donation to our excellent new Charity of the Year for 2024, Feeding Britain, for each ticket and table sold.

Best wishes,

Paul Smith
