Anti-Money Laundering training reminder

Members are reminded that Regulation 24 of the Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds (Information on the Payer) Regulations 2017 (‘MLR17’) (and as amended) requires IPs to take appropriate measures to ensure that employees are made aware of the law relating to money laundering and terrorist financing, and are regularly given training on how to recognise and deal with transactions and other activities which may be related to money laundering or terrorist financing.

Whilst there is no definition of ‘regular training’, the IPA would recommend that annual training is provided and undertaken. IPs are reminded that a record of the training given is required to be kept. Training logs are reviewed as part of AML visits and compliance reviews, and can be reviewed as part of a full inspection visit. IPs should ensure that your CPD record shows that you have undertaken regular AML training as part of your ongoing professional development.
