Hi everyone. I hope you all are enjoying the summer sun and having some well-deserved time off. However there are a few important reminders below for you to turn your attention to as you return to work. As always, to help you stay up to date with the latest updates from the IPA, you can also follow us on our LinkedIn and Twitter channels, where we post regularly.
As you know, it is essential that Insolvency Practitioners and Money Laundering Reporting Officers (MLROs) remain effective in Anti-Money Laundering (AML) compliance, and this is all the more important given the fluid Russian sanctions situation.
Appropriate assessment of risk is key to compliance, as is ensuring staff are familiar with policies and procedures so that they know how to spot risk issues and manage them. We will be running the next IPA Learning workshop, ‘AML: A Practical Guide to Risk Assessment’, from 12:30-2pm on 8th September, and I recommend you join for a refresher on risk assessment and reporting obligations, as well as how to spot risks and deal with them effectively. Read more about this workshop here.
Similarly, I am aware that members value guidance from the IPA Inspection team on how best to meet regulatory requirements. As well as insights from our guest speakers, the autumn Roadshow programmes include the opportunity to hear regulatory guidance from the IPA and meet members of the Regulation team. Do attend for what should be helpful input into your work, as well as the opportunity to network with the speakers and your peers.
We will also be launching our member survey in autumn. Please do get involved so that you can help us shape the future direction of the IPA, our services and how we can better benefit and support our members. It is our goal to provide the best possible member experience, which we won’t be able to do effectively without hearing your views. Do look out for further communication on this.
I look forward to hosting the IPA Awards Reception on 9th November and celebrating this year’s successes in the profession. Nominations open on 1st September, and I encourage you to put your colleagues forward for a chance to receive some recognition for their achievements! Anyone who works with insolvency professionals can nominate, so do spread the word amongst your colleagues and peers. Read more about the Awards and Reception here.
A note on some recent scam activity that we have seen – fraudsters are mis-using the name and credentials of “Ward and Co Insolvency Practitioners Limited” and incorrectly claiming the credentials of a “Jerome Green” as an authorised Insolvency Practitioner, licensed by the IPA. This is not the case, and no other Recognised Professional Body (RPB) has a licence holder by this name. Members of the public have been contacted in relation to supposed insolvency investigations, claims purchase and prosecutions of a number of different historical financial scam companies. We published an alert on this last month, which can be viewed here.
Wishing those of you that have yet to take a break a very happy holiday with friends and family and I look forward to seeing you at some point during our Autumn series of events.
